Patrick Tjon

Patrick is born and raised in Paramaribo, Suriname.
After high school he got a teaching degree at junior level in geography (IOL-Advanced Teacher Training Institute, 1987), Bachelor of Arts degree in drawing and painting (AHKCO-Academy for Arts & Culture Education, 1989) and in 2007 he got a degree in teaching art at senior level (IOL-Advanced Teacher Training Institute). In 2015 he got his Master of Education degree, Innovation & Implementation at Institute for Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR), Anton de Kom University Suriname.

As a visual artist he participated in different national and international exhibitions e.g. National Art Fair, Suriname (1990-2016) Primera Biennal de Pintura de Caribe in Museum of Modern Art G.A.M. , Santo Domingo Dominican Republic (1992), Carifesta V, Trinidad (1992), Carifesta VIII (2003), Suriname, Fiesta del Fuego, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba (2014).

Nowadays he is teaching Fine Arts at Art Education department  of the Advanced Teacher Training Institute (IOL, 2007) and Printmaking, Art History and other Art subjects at the Visual Arts Department of the Academy for Arts & Culture Education (AHKCO, 1994). The IOL provides a teaching degree and the AHKCO is a Bachelor of Arts degree program.
He is board member of the Federation of Visual Artist in Suriname (FVAS) and the foundation National Art Fair (NK) in Suriname.
